Eric Sanford

Research Interests

My research focuses on the ecological and evolutionary responses of marine organisms to environmental change, particularly the factors shaping species’ range shifts in the sea. I study the northward expansion of coastal marine invertebrates and the spread of invasive species during a period of rapid ocean change, including the effects of climate change, ocean acidification, and other environmental stressors. Based at Bodega Marine Laboratory, my research combines field and laboratory experiments with long-term ecological monitoring to understand how environmental variability affects marine biodiversity and community dynamics, with current work involving territorial owl limpets, predatory drilling snails, and invasive sea anemones.
